Member, Economic Matters Committee
House Chair, Joint Information Technology & Biotechnology Committee
Chair, House Banking, Economic Development, Science & Technology Subcommittee

Dear Friends,

With Primary Election Day less than two weeks away, all signs point toward  a strong showing on September 14th.  Today, The Gazette endorsed my bid for re-election to the Maryland House of Delegates.  "Feldman, chairman of the Montgomery County delegation in Annapolis, is a leader in efforts to expand the biotech industry...he understand the complexities of the state budget and has the skills to lead Maryland through the coming budget challenges."  Click here to read complete article.  This announcement comes a week after receiving The Washington Post endorsement.

Also, in today's Gazette, there is a Letter to the Editor which commends my efforts to promote Maryland's technology sector.  Click here to read the letter.

The support of the Gazette and the Post caps off a long list of endorsements from groups that span the entire political spectrum.  To view the complete updated list of endorsements, click here.

Feldman Testifies On Pepco Matter

The Public Service Commission (PSC) held a public hearing in Rockville on Monday evening, August 30th, as part of its investigation into Pepco's reliability and quality of its distribution system, specifically reviewing Pepco's performance during this summer when 300,000 Pepco customers experienced power outages. In my capacity as Chair of the Montgomery County House Delegation, I testified at the hearing, highlighting the need for the PSC to take prompt action using state legislation that Councilmember Roger Berliner and I have crafted as a guide.  The legislation requires the PSC to set clear reliability standards by 2012 and provide economic consequences for Pepco if it fails to meet such standards.

Governor O'Malley lent his support this past week to key aspects of the Feldman-Berliner proposal.  In a August 27th letter to the PSC, the Governor states, "As championed by Delegate Feldman and County Councilman Berliner, I believe that we need to implement clear standards against which Pepco (and the other Maryland utilities) can be measured with regard to frequency and duration of outages...The Commission should also establish consequences for poor performance." Click here to read the letter.  I will continue to keep you abreast of future developments on this critically important issue.
